Round 4 of the High Stakes Duel III between Phil Hellmuth and Tom Dwan will kick off next month, with the stakes higher than ever, PokerGO announced Tuesday, with the stakes higher than ever in the legendary heads-up poker event. Fans can rejoice.
The match will be broadcast live on PokerGO on May 12th at 8pm ET. Both sides put in 400,000 buy-ins in this match, the highest level to date for a single challenge.
In fact, after the third round, the outside world has always been skeptical that the Poison King will choose to continue the game because the Poison King has not made a public statement. Because with the increase of the round, the buy-in also increases exponentially, 400,000 is not a small amount for anyone.
But Phil Hellmuth has always believed that the Poison King will choose to continue, saying: ” I know you will choose to continue playing … This time the prize pool is 800,000 .”
It really confirms the old saying that the person who knows you best is often your opponent.
Phil Hellmuth also added: “The next game is 800,000. If I lose, I’m pretty sure I won’t spend 800,000 to play again, but I bet he will. If he (Poison King) doesn’t Do, then others will. I have to win two more times, maybe Dwan and then Phil Ivey, or Dwan and then Dwan…if I can win the next game. ”

☆ Event review
If you haven’t followed this heads-up match before, it might be a little confusing now. So let’s explain, High Stakes Due and its rules.
High Stakes Duel is a heads-up show on PokerGO. The starting buy-in for each player is 50,000, and the loser can choose to give up or replay after the first round. If he/she chooses to give up, then within 30 days, another player can take over and continue the game. Each round, the buy-in is doubled. If no one takes the baton, the winner will be cashed directly.
The winner cannot refuse the loser’s request for a replay unless they have won both rounds 1 to 3, or won 2 consecutive games in the fourth and subsequent rounds.
Phil Hellmuth had a seven-game winning streak on the show before taking on the Poison King. First, he won three straight wins against Antonio Esfandiari and Dan Niu in “High Stakes Duel I” and “High Stakes Duel II”, and then defeated Nick Wrigh in the first round of “High Stakes Duel III”.
Nick Wright, who lost the first round, chose to give up the challenge and did not continue. After that, the Poison King took over and started the second round of “High Stakes Duel III” in August 2021 with a buy-in of 100,000 and ended Phil Hellmuth’s winning streak.
Phil Hellmuth, a first-time loser, was quick to say he would continue. The pair met again in the third round in January, risking 200,000 each. This time, Phil Hellmuth succeeded in getting his revenge and won twice what he had previously lost.
Since Phil Hellmuth started his new streak in the third round, he has two more games to win to cash in. So if he wins the fourth round, and if the Poison King or the next taker is willing to pay the 800,000 buy-in, he will have to go to the fifth round. Likewise, if the Poison King wins in the fourth round, if anyone wants to play him in the fifth round, he will need to play another round to cash in.
Is that enough to beat Phil Hellmuth? We’ll find out on May 12th
